Meet The Horses

Patrick the horse

PATRICK

Patrick is the locally famous Horsewyse Sensory pony. With his gorgeous mismatched eyes (one a dazzling blue, one a deep brown) and fabulous moustache, Patrick is easy to recognise on the yard. Having been specially trained, he is able to work by voice command so often works with children with physical limitations. He is a very empathetic pony who exudes a constant state of peace and calmness, making him perfect for grooming, cuddling, and generally allowing children to experience a variety of sensations with him. Patient and loving, Patrick has the time for anyone.

KEY STATS

DOLLY

Dolly is the resident Diva of the herd - living up to her namesake of Dolly Parton, she is larger than life, insists she is the first served (both with coming in from the field and being fed) and loves a good cuddle. Although she doesn’t like being in the school, Dolly loves going out for a hack with her owner and riders - but she’ll soon let you know when she’s had enough, as she will just turn around and take herself home. Overall, Dolly is a lovely horse with a flair for the dramatics.

Pumpkin the horse

PUMPKIN

Pumpkin is known round here for being a bit shorter than the other cobs and for his ability to pull the cart. Though he can be ridden, he doesn’t like the feel of a saddle so is much more comfortable pulling around children in the cart. He loves being spoken to and hearing the voices around him, which makes him fantastic at connection work. Pumpkin loves being pampered and is all around a sweet and well behaved pony.

KEY STATS

KOKO

Whilst Koko is the oldest of the herd, she definitely doesn’t act like it. It’s true that she has her moody moments, however she will instantly be your best friend if you have a treat for her (and if you’re lucky, she may even flash you a big smile). With age comes experience, Koko is well versed in many disciplines and has helped teach many riders how to understand horse behaviour. Don’t let this aging girl fool you, she can keep up with the best of them (getting her to stop is where the skill comes in). Due to her age, Koko is now semi retired, however she still enjoys connection work and being pampered.

Harry the horse

HARRISON

Harrison (aka Harry) may be the smallest of the herd but that doesn’t keep him down! He’s been known to run underneath other horses and hide between their legs for shade; that is, when he’s not trying to steal the spotlight. Harry loves being the center of attention - going for walks beside the big cobs, being groomed and pampered, and getting lots of cuddles and kisses from all the children. Harry may be small, but he’s got a big personality that shines through.

KEY STATS

POPPET

Poppet is our miniature Dolly, in that she is learning her sass and a diva nature from the best. She is wonderfully patient with children, walks beautifully on a lead rein, and knows when to stop if her riders need to adjust their seat. Though she may need a bit of encouragement to get beyond a walk, she is a star at connection work and loves cuddles - but only on her terms, she will give a cold shoulder if she’s not feeling up to hugs. Despite the sassy nature she’s been learning, she is very well behaved and a very pretty pony.

PJ the horse

PJ

PJ is most definitely food orientated. He is generally well behaved, however can take some encouragement to work and takes time to warm up to people. Unless, that is, you have a treat or some food! Any human who has a treat with them, has a friend for life in PJ. Due to his slightly stubborn nature, he is fantastic at teaching his riders patience and understanding. Cuddles and food are what make this pony tick.

KEY STATS

PRINCESS

Princess is the baby of the herd and definitely takes advantage of that. She adores being spoiled and pampered, and is well behaved when children groom her - she is especially fond of her mane being well taken care of. Though she is not old enough to be ridden yet, she will be trained up to help children learn to ride when she is old enough. Don’t let her pretty looks fool you, she’s not a meek and mild foal, she will insist on being treated like her namesake - an absolute princess.

Humphrey the horse

HUMPHREY

Humphrey is a private livery who will soon be helping in the SEN sessions. He our tallest resident at 16hh. Whilst he can be a little grumpy if cooped up in his stable for long, he is very affectionate when in the school and rides beautifully. He has 3 wonderful (if a bit bouncy) strides and will be trained to do connection and SEN work with our visitors.

Updates to follow as Humphrey progresses.

KEY STATS

IVY

Ivy is a private livery who helps in the SEN and sensory sessions due to her history working with SEN children. As she is fairly new to the yard, we are still learning all the details and quirks of her personality. To date she has shown to be a bit of a diva, but loves cuddles and is generally very well behaved for any rider when she has a saddle on.

Livery Horses

As well as housing our equine therapy and school ponies and horses, Horsewyse CIC is delighted to be home to some privately owned, livery horses:

Pinta

A beautiful, dark bay mare, who is gentle on the ground and graceful to ride. She is best friends with Ruby, and they will usually spend their time in the fields together.

Ruby

Another gorgeous, dark bay mare, who is very gentle and calm. Though she can sometimes need a bit of encouragement to do as asked, Ruby is a wonderful companion to her family.

Ivy

One of our newer residents, Ivy is a black and white cob who looks a lot like Patrick. She has experience with SEN children previously and is eager to learn more.

Humphrey

Our newest and tallest resident. Stunning Humphrey is a bay gelding with lovely strides, who is looking to be trained up to assist with some of the equine therapy work.
